Jordan Stolz seeks third gold medal at Milan Cortina Olympics – NBC New York

When speed skater Jordan Stolz made his Winter Olympics debut in 2022 at Beijing, he competed in two events and failed to medal in both.

Stolz upped his game for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, where he’s earned gold in those same events, and now seeks a third on Thursday in a race he’s never done on the Olympic level.

So far in Milan Cortina, the 21-year-old started with the men’s 1000m event, where he set an Olympic record on his way to gold, with a time of 1:06.28 — 50 seconds faster than the second-place winner, Jenning de Boo of the Netherlands.

A new day, a new record. Stolz’ win in the 500m speed skating event Saturday saw him set another Olympic record, with a time of 33.77, which was good for 11 seconds faster than de Boo.

The current Olympic record for the 1500m is 1:43.21, a record the Wisconsin native may look to claim on his way to a third gold medal.

The 21-year-old looks to become the first male athlete to win three gold medals at a single Olympics, last done by Eric Heiden in 1980, when he won five gold medals at Lake Placid.

Stolz returns to the ice on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for the men’s 1500m, an event he did not compete in at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The action can be seen on NBC New York and streamed on Peacock or NBCOlympics.com.
