NYC weekend forecast promises heat, no break from humidity – NBC New York

After a stormy start to the week, the weather looks a lot more settled heading into the weekend. We may not manage two perfectly dry days, as a stray shower or two is possible, but we also won’t be facing any threat of severe weather.

But even with drier skies, we will continue to endure high humidity — and it won’t be going away any time soon.

From severe thunderstorms to flood watches to tornado warnings, this week brought a persistent onslaught of severe weather hazards across parts of the tri-state. Thankfully, none of that will be a concern for the weekend.

From Friday through Sunday, the area stays clear of all severe weather threats. At worst, there could be a few pop-up storms, especially during the peak heating hours of the day. But nothing that is going to turn the weekend, or even a single day, into a washout.

While these isolated showers and storms could pop up anywhere, the greatest risk will be further inland, north and west of the I-95 corridor. If weekend plans take you to the Poconos or Catskills, bring an umbrella with you, in case of a quick downpour.

But if you’re looking to spend your time down the shore this weekend, skies are looking generally sunny and much drier. It should be a nice weekend to enjoy the ocean (rip current risk will be low), sand and sun. Just don’t forget the sunscreen; the UV index will be very high.

Shower chances may not play a role in the weekend forecast for many, but the heat and humidity certainly will. Temperature forecasts for the weekend are around, if not slightly below, the average for mid-July. But our humidity is very high, with no real sign of relief; this is going to leave us stuck feeling some intense summer heat.

With continued dew points in the upper 60s and low 70s all weekend, our temperatures are going to be feeling more like the 90s. And while these heat indices don’t quite meet the requirements for a heat advisory, these are still conditions where you’ll want to take it easy outside, especially when engaging in strenuous activity; listen to your body and stay hydrated.

That includes even just outside spectating a sporting event for an extended period of time. For those attending the FIFA Club World Cup Final on Sunday, it’ll be a warm and humid day outside, especially with the noontime start. By the time the match ends, we will be approaching peak heat of the day. But at least you won’t have to worry about rain interrupting the game.

Unfortunately the drier weather pattern does not stay beyond the weekend. Storm chances are already back in the forecast by Monday and then again on Thursday.

Still, none of those storms look to bring any kind of break in the heat or humidity. In fact, we’ll have a run of multiple days next week with temperatures once again nearing 90.
