Police shoot and kill armed man after “violent domestic situation” in Northampton – NBC New York

Southampton Town Police shot and killed a man Sunday who was armed with a knife, Suffolk County authorities said.
The officers were responding to a call of an “escalating violent domestic situation” around 2:40 PM in Northampton.
A woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Three Southampton Town Police officers were treated and released at a local hospital, officials said. The Suffolk Police Homicide Squad is investigating.
An NBC New York crew saw numerous officers at the scene well into the night.

Southampton Town Police say patrol units were dispatched to the residence in the area of Topping Drive. “Officers secured the scene and an investigation is ongoing with Suffolk County Police Department,” the statement added.

Detectives from the New York State Attorney General’s Office responded. It is standard practice for the state A.G. to probe any use of force by police in New York that results in a death, through its Office of Special Investigation.
“There is currently no danger to the community,” police said.
