On May 17, 2022, now-former Pinellas County Deputy Sheriff Shelby Alyse Coniglio was stopped by Officer Kristin Higgins with the St. Petersburg Police Department. Despite pleading to her status as a deputy sheriff, to having been assembling furniture, and to wearing contact lenses, Coniglio was ultimately cited for careless driving and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.
