It’s already the weekend again, so let’s catch you up on the best goings on about Brooklyn from Friday to Sunday.
Friday brings Billboard Hip-Hop LIVE ‘24 to Xanadu for a night of music (but no skating). Usher will have you yelling “Hey Daddy” all night, and Comedian Brandon Wardell goes on late with a birthday show at The Bell House.
BRIC brings the academic spirit with a back-to-school bash all day Saturday. The East Village’s Superbueno comes to Williamsburg’s Esse Taco that same afternoon with two different drinks to choose from while you munch on Esse’s tacos. The Modfather — singer-songwriter and former member of The Jam and Style Council, Paul Weller — plays Kings Theatre on Saturday night.
MTV crashes Domino Park on Sunday with their VMA Block Party. Featuring free performances all day, the party takes place ahead of next Sunday’s big awards show at the UBS Arena.

U.S. Open 2024: Watch in Brooklyn
The US Open is underway through Sunday
The U.S. Open might be in Queens, but there’s no reason to leave Brooklyn to watch it. All matches will be airing live on ESPN and ESPN2 with the men’s final set to air live on ABC for the first time. We found some bars showing the action, moving from South to North Brooklyn.
‘The Becomers’ at Spectacle Theater
Screening on Friday and Saturday and again on the 22 and 26
“The Becomers” is the latest feature from celebrated Brooklyn-based indie filmmaker Zach Clark and it’s coming to Brooklyn’s Spectacle Theater on Friday. The movie is an outrageous and surprisingly emotionally poignant sci-fi genre-bender. You can watch the trailer here. The screenings on Friday and Saturday will have live music from Composer Fritz Myers before the film. Stick around after for filmmaker Q&As after. 124 South 3rd Street. Brooklyn beaches’ final weekend for the season

It’s your last chance to swim at Brighton, Coney Island and Manhattan beaches before they close for the season on Sunday. Billboard is hosting Hip-Hop LIVE on Friday night at the new immersive roller rink Xanadu. Performances include a DJ set by DJ Miss Milan, rising star BossMan Dlow and headliner Teezo Touchdown. The Six Foot Platform

On Saturday, Washington Street in Dumbo becomes home to a full-day of immersive performances that will engage and challenge spectators. Six Brooklyn-based artists including Hisayasu Takashio, Fanny Allié, What Will The Neighbors Say?, Akshay Bharadhwaj & Sunanda Vasudevan, and Sarah E. Brook will present experimental art and performance on Washington Street. The 2024 Six Foot Platform also offers workshops, music, interactive installations, woodcarving, storytelling, poetry, and more.

For two days in September, queens, kings and all the in-betweens will take over the sprawling Knockdown Center event space for the 13th annual dragstravaganza that is Bushwig. Bikini Kill at Brooklyn Paramount

Reunited ’90s riot grrl band Bikini Kill, led by charismatic singer Kathleen Hanna, comes to Brooklyn for a two-night stand this month. Hannah — whose memoir, “Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk,” came out in May — threw a benefit concert for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund with her band earlier this year. 385 Flatbush Avenue. The 16th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L. Walk and 5K

T.E.A.L.’s 16th annual walk and 5K happens Saturday morning at the Lena Horne Bandshell in Prospect Park. T.E.A.L. (Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer) has spread awareness, raised funds to promote a cure for ovarian cancer, and supported survivors and their families year-round since 2009. The East Village’s Superbueno has teamed up with Esse Taco in Williamsburg to bring a taste of the bar to Brooklyn. This Saturday, Superbueno will offer up two drinks alongside Esse Taco bites and some vinyl tunes until they’re sold out. Explore buses from The New York Transit Museum’s vintage fleet, representing more than 90 years of New York City surface transit history. VMAs Block Party

MTV’s 2nd annual VMAs Block Party will take place on Sunday in Domino Park. Second Sundays at Pioneer Works

Pioneer Works is opening back up to the public after an extensive renovation, bringing back its free monthly open house. Highlighting their programs, artists in residence, and Red Hook community members, their Second Sundays series features open studios, exhibitions, workshops, live music and food across all three floors and in our garden.
